North Peninsula State Park Fishing

6.1· Backwater · Flagler Beach, FL

Free: No entry fee (checked Sep 27, 2026)

North Peninsula State Park is more than 550 acres of undeveloped coast between the Atlantic and the Intracoastal Waterway in Ormond-by-the-Sea, and it has no entry fee. Its river side, Smith Creek Landing on Highbridge Road, is where the park invites visitors to fish and crab from the banks of the waterway: redfish, spotted seatrout, black drum and sheepshead are the regulars, with flounder in the fall and jacks and snapper in summer. The park also has almost three miles of beach for surf fishing, whiting and pompano being the usual catch, though storm erosion shut its beach access for a time from October 2025. The river has only a small tide, so fish around the tide changes and in the calm of the morning or late afternoon. The park is open from 8 a.m. to sunset, with restrooms, a canoe and kayak launch and the Coastal Strand Trail. Bring everything you need.
