Fees vary: The fort charges admission; ask at the entrance whether beach anglers pay (checked Oct 17, 2026)
Mobile Point is the sandy tip of the Fort Morgan peninsula, below the walls of Fort Morgan at the end of Highway 180, where Mobile Bay pours into the Gulf past the main ship channel. Surf anglers fish the beach around the point for speckled trout, black drum and Gulf kingfish, and above all for redfish: Dixey Bar, just off the east side of the channel here, is famous for its bull reds, with spring and fall the peak seasons. Cut bait and live croakers on heavy surf tackle are the standard, and the falling tide, when the bay drains past the point, is the time to be here. The point lies within Fort Morgan State Historic Site, which charges admission to the fort, so check at the entrance about beach access. Currents, ship wakes and drop-offs make it no place to wade deep.
