Sidney Fischer Park, Cocoa Beach Fishing

Sidney Fischer Park is an easy oceanfront park in north Cocoa Beach where you can surf-fish with showers and restrooms nearby. It is best before the beachgoers arrive or after they leave.

• Whiting, pompano and bluefish, with snook near the surf in warm months

• Busy swimming beach, so keep clear of swimmers

The park is on North Atlantic Avenue in Cocoa Beach, north of the pier area and the busier central beaches.

• Parking: a paid lot of roughly 200 spaces; the fee has been reported both hourly and as a flat daily rate, so check the posted fee
• Hours: the park closes at dusk and there is no overnight parking
• A boardwalk crosses the dunes to the beach
• The nearest other beach park to the south is Lori Wilson Park

Surf fishing here follows the same seasons as the rest of the Space Coast beaches.

• Spring (Mar-May): pompano and whiting in the trough, with bluefish and Spanish mackerel when bait is close
• Summer (Jun-Aug): whiting, small sharks, rays and the odd snook near the surf at dawn
• Fall (Sep-Nov): pompano, whiting and bluefish when the mullet run
• Winter (Dec-Feb): whiting and bluefish, with the occasional black drum

A pompano rig and live or fresh bait cover most of what bites.

• Whiting and pompano: two-hook bottom rig, sand fleas, shrimp or Fishbites, 2 to 3 oz pyramid sinker
• Bluefish and mackerel: a metal spoon or jig cast past the break
• Snook: a live pilchard or a swimming plug at first light
• A 9 to 10 foot rod with 10 to 15 lb line is plenty here
• Keep to the edges and away from swimmers when casting

Tides run twice a day on the Atlantic coast; check NOAA predictions for Port Canaveral.

• The hours around high tide put fish in the trough
• A light onshore breeze helps; big surf muddies the water
• Dawn and dusk avoid the crowds and the heat
• Cool, clean water after a front often turns on pompano

This is a busy swimming beach; lifeguard coverage is not confirmed, so check the signs.

• Keep your casts away from swimmers and surfers
• Rip currents can form in any surf; do not wade deep
• Shuffle your feet for stingrays
• Leave the beach at the first thunder
• The boardwalk and paved lot make for easy access, though the sand is soft

• Beach vendors may rent chairs and umbrellas in season
• No bait shop in the park that we confirmed; buy bait in town before you arrive

• Fish at first light and have your lines in before the lot fills
• Buy bait on the way; tackle shops are a short drive on the beachside
• Look for a darker trough just past the first sandbar and cast there
• Check the parking sign for the current fee and the dusk closing time
• Fish a day or two after a cold front for the best pompano bite
• Pack out line and bait; sea turtles nest on this beach in summer

The beach park is run by the City of Cocoa Beach. We could not find a page that lists fishing here, so read the posted signs and obey any rules on casting near swimmers.
