Lewis Landing Park Fishing

6.0· Backwater · Fort Lauderdale, FL

Lewis Landing Park is a small City of Fort Lauderdale park on the South Fork of the New River, on SW 9th Avenue between SW 7th Street and the water, with a dock, an observation deck and a shady lawn running down to the river. The city lists fishing among its amenities, and anglers fish the riverbank for snook, tarpon, crevalle jack and mangrove snapper, with ladyfish and catfish in the warm months and sheepshead around pilings in winter. The South Fork is tidal, so fish the moving water, especially the outgoing tide around dawn and dusk, with live shrimp or a small swimbait. The park is open from sunrise to sunset and has parking, a pavilion, picnic tables and a drinking fountain. Watch for passing boats, and remember that city rules ban fishing from or under any bridge in Fort Lauderdale.
