Englewood Beach Fishing

Englewood Beach at Chadwick Park is the busiest Gulf beach in Charlotte County and an easy surf-fishing stop with full facilities.

• Snook in the trough in summer, pompano and whiting in the cooler months
• Spanish mackerel, ladyfish and bluefish when bait runs the beach
• A small park fishing pier on the Chadwick Park peninsula; check its status before you go
• Restrooms, showers and free beach wheelchairs

The park is at 2100 North Beach Road on Manasota Key in Englewood, reached along Beach Road from Englewood.

• Hours: the beach park is open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.; the county lists its fishing pier as open 24 hours
• Parking: normally 75 cents an hour through ParkMobile or with a county parking pass, but in September 2026 the county said beach and boat ramp parking fees were temporarily suspended, so check before you go
• The lot has reopened after storm repairs; spaces were limited while it was being rebuilt
• The park's long boardwalk is listed as closed on the county's post-storm status page
• Surface: soft sand; beach wheelchairs can be borrowed during the day

Classic Southwest Florida surf fishing.

• Spring (Mar–May): pompano and whiting, Spanish mackerel and bluefish on the bait, snook moving onto the beach
• Summer (Jun–Aug): snook at first light in the trough, ladyfish and jacks, sharks toward dusk
• Fall (Sep–Nov): mackerel with the bait schools, redfish and flounder toward Stump Pass
• Winter (Dec–Feb): pompano and whiting on calm, warm days; sheepshead around any structure

• Pompano and whiting: a two-hook drop rig with sand fleas or shrimp, 2 to 4 oz pyramid sinker
• Snook: a white bucktail, paddletail or live shrimp cast along the trough, 30 lb leader
• Mackerel and bluefish: small spoons and jigs on a short wire or heavy fluorocarbon leader
• Sharks: cut bait on wire, heavy tackle and the FWC permit
• Dig sand fleas at the water's edge for fresh bait

Tides are mixed and small: usually two uneven highs and lows a day, with a single one on some days, and a range of only about 1 to 2 feet at NOAA's Englewood station in Lemon Bay.

• A rising tide at first light is best for snook and pompano
• Calm, clear water after east winds suits sight fishing
• Moderate surf helps pompano; big west swells make it unfishable
• The best mackerel days follow bait schools close to the beach in spring and fall
• Check the state red tide map in late summer and fall

• Leave the beach at the first thunder on summer afternoons
• Beach wheelchairs are free on a help-yourself basis from 7:30 a.m. and must be back by 3:30 p.m.; call the park first
• Bring water and shade; there is little natural shade on the sand

The county lists good facilities, though some storm repairs are still being planned.
