Oyster Creek Environmental Park Fishing

5.7· Backwater · Englewood, FL

Oyster Creek Environmental Park is a large Charlotte County preserve on Placida Road in Englewood, where trails through old pine flatwoods lead down to Oyster Creek, a mangrove-fringed tidal creek that drains into Lemon Bay. The county lists fishing and a sandy kayak launch here, and the creek is classic small-water snook country: snook and juvenile tarpon in the warm months, redfish and mangrove snapper along the mangroves, and sheepshead and seatrout when the water cools. Fish moving water with live shrimp or a small paddletail cast tight to the mangrove roots, early and late in summer. It is a nature park first, so expect some walking, no fishing pier and no restrooms listed. The park is open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Bring strong bug spray and watch for alligators.
