Shired Island Park Fishing

Shired Island Park is a remote Dixie County park reached by County Road 357, where Shired Creek meets the Gulf between Horseshoe Beach and the Suwannee River. Shore anglers fish the creek mouth from the seawall and a short fishing deck, or wade the shell and oyster bars for redfish, spotted seatrout, sheepshead and black drum, with flounder and Spanish mackerel in season. Live shrimp under a cork and cut bait on the bottom do most of the work. Fish the moving tide, because the flats drain far at low water. After Hurricane Idalia the county stopped camping and blocked vehicles from the beach, so you park and walk in; the boat ramp is listed as open. There are no stores nearby. Watch for oysters, stingrays, biting insects and summer lightning.
