Cemetery Point Park Fishing

5.9· Flats · Cedar Key, FL

Cemetery Point Park is a small City of Cedar Key park on a point of land beside the island's cemetery, with tidal channel water on three sides and a boardwalk winding through the mangroves. Its couple of little beaches give shore anglers a quiet way to fish the back channels and oyster bars away from the downtown pier. Redfish, speckled trout, sheepshead and black drum are the targets, with flounder in the fall and mangrove snapper, jacks and ladyfish in summer. A light rod, live shrimp and a handful of fiddler crabs cover it. Most days bring two uneven high and low tides, the channel runs well on both, and the oyster bars show at low water; fish the moving tide, especially the start of the flood. The park has a covered pavilion, a playground and a fitness trail. Watch for sharp oysters, soft mud, stingrays and summer lightning.
