Fishbone Creek Landing, Horseshoe Beach Fishing

6.0· Backwater· Horseshoe Beach, FL

Fishbone Creek Landing is a small, primitive access on Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge, where Fishbone Creek runs out to Horseshoe Cove on Dixie County's Big Bend coast. It is a quiet, undeveloped place: a free sand ramp, a handful of parking spaces and a creek bank to fish from. The refuge says bank fishing is available on its tidal creeks, and local anglers wade the oyster and shell bars of the cove on a falling tide for redfish and big spotted seatrout. Expect redfish and trout most of the year, with black drum, sheepshead and flounder as bonus fish and ladyfish and jacks in the warm months. Use light spinning gear with soft plastics or live shrimp. Tides shape everything here, and the creek is brackish. Bring bait, water and bug spray; there are no restrooms nearby.
