Fee to fish: National park entrance fee at the gate, valid seven days (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Fort Pickens Fishing Pier is a 200-foot, wheelchair-accessible pier on the Pensacola Bay side of Santa Rosa Island, near the historic fort in the Gulf Islands National Seashore. The pier sits close to Pensacola Pass, so strong tidal currents carry bait past it and draw Spanish mackerel, redfish, flounder, sheepshead, speckled trout and ladyfish, with pompano and black drum at times. Fish the moving tide, especially the first half of the ebb, with shrimp, live bait or small jigs. It is a licensed pier, so recreational anglers fishing from it do not need their own Florida license. Access is through the Fort Pickens Area entrance station, which charges a park fee, opens at 5 a.m. and closes at 8 p.m. from March through October and at 6 p.m. in winter. Watch for strong current, lightning and summer heat.
