Fee to fish: National seashore entrance fee, card payment only (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Langdon Beach is the lifeguarded Gulf beach of the Fort Pickens Area in Gulf Islands National Seashore, near the western tip of Santa Rosa Island, with the area's only pavilion on the sand and a 60-space lot. Surf casters walk away from the swim zone to fish the troughs for pompano in spring and fall, Gulf whiting when the water cools and redfish, which peak with the fall bull run toward nearby Pensacola Pass, while Spanish mackerel, bluefish and jacks pass through in the warm months. The entrance station opens at 5 a.m., so a first-light session is possible. Tides are modest, with one high and one low on most days, so clean water and a manageable surf matter more. Expect an entrance fee, a road that floods in storms and a stretch the Park Service rates at high risk for rip currents.
