Fee to fish: Vehicle entrance fee for this national seashore area (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Beach Access 19A is the first Gulf-side stop inside the Fort Pickens Area of Gulf Islands National Seashore, a small National Park Service lot on Fort Pickens Road less than a mile past the entrance station. The Park Service lists fishing among the things to do here, and a short walk over open sand puts you on miles of undeveloped surf at the west end of Santa Rosa Island. Pompano and Gulf whiting are the everyday targets in spring and fall, big redfish work this beach in autumn, the season of the bull red run at Pensacola Pass, and Spanish mackerel, bluefish and ladyfish arrive with the summer bait. Tides are small, generally one high and one low a day. An entrance fee applies, the lot is closed to loitering from sunset until 8 a.m., and there are no restrooms here. Rip currents are the chief danger.
