Fort Pickens Point, Pensacola Pass Fishing
7.1· Inlet· Warrington, FL
At the far west tip of Santa Rosa Island, Pensacola Pass is the only natural inlet in the area and the Gulf Islands National Seashore beach beside the Fort Pickens lot lets anglers fish it from the sand. Tidal current pours between the Gulf and Pensacola Bay here, drawing bull redfish in fall, Spanish mackerel and bluefish when bait is thick, and flounder, pompano and whiting from the sand on either side of the point. Cast bottom rigs and live bait along the edge of the channel or walk the beach for the bite. The national seashore charges an entrance fee, and the nearby fishing pier has its own rules and a no-wading, no-boats zone around it. Currents at the pass are strong, so stay out of the water and watch for boat wakes.
