Apollo Beach Nature Preserve Fishing

Apollo Beach Nature Preserve is a 63-acre Hillsborough County preserve on the southeastern shore of Tampa Bay, where a 2-acre sandy beach and a recreation area face open bay water. The county bills it for shoreline fishing and lists it among its best fishing spots: redfish, snook and spotted seatrout feed along the grass and sand edges, sheepshead and black drum move in during winter, and Spanish mackerel and jacks pass in spring and fall. Cast live shrimp under a cork or soft plastics on a moving tide, or bottom-fish cut bait for reds. The preserve opens at 8 a.m. and closes at sunset, with restrooms, picnic tables and a 37-foot accessible observation tower. Swimming is not allowed and county code bans wading, so fish from the sand. Watch for lightning and the afternoon sea breeze.
