Bowditch Point Park, Fort Myers Beach Fishing

6.5· Inlet · Punta Rassa, FL

Bowditch Point Park fills the north tip of Estero Island at Fort Myers Beach, where Matanzas Pass meets the Gulf and San Carlos Bay. With the Fort Myers Beach Pier being rebuilt after Hurricane Ian, it is the town's best open shore spot. Fish the point and the pass shoreline for snook, Spanish mackerel, pompano, jacks and ladyfish on the tide, sheepshead in winter, and redfish, trout and snapper along the pass edges. The outgoing tide off the point fishes best. Since September 8, 2026 the park's parking lot and amenities have been closed for Hurricane Ian repairs, but the beach is still open dawn to dusk on foot and the LeeTran park-and-ride and trolley stop still serves it. Boat traffic and current in Matanzas Pass are serious, so fish from the beach and do not wade the channel.
