Matanzas Bridge Fishing Pier

Free: No fee to fish this county pier (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Matanzas Bridge Fishing Pier is a short, free Lee County pier tucked under the San Carlos Island end of the Matanzas Pass Bridge, the high arched bridge that carries San Carlos Boulevard onto Fort Myers Beach. It was built into the bridge when the old swing bridge, a popular fishing spot, was replaced. The pier puts you over the deep, busy channel of Matanzas Pass, a working waterfront, where sheepshead and black drum crowd the pilings in winter and snook, mangrove snapper, jacks and ladyfish take over in the warm months, with redfish and trout on the tide. Fish the moving tide with shrimp or pinfish close to the structure; county rules ban cast nets from fishing piers. It opens dawn to dusk with limited free parking and no pets. Watch the strong current, boat traffic and summer lightning.
