Horton Park is a City of Cape Coral boat-ramp park on the Caloosahatchee River just south of the Midpoint Bridge, and the city lists its river shoreline as an approved fishing location open 24 hours. A short walking path runs along the river overlooking the saltwater boat launch, and from it you can fish the river edge and the mouth of the canal the ramp uses. Snook are the main draw, especially in the cooler months and at night, with redfish, black drum, sheepshead, mangrove snapper, jacks and ladyfish depending on the season and how salty the river is. Fish the moving tide with live shrimp, pinfish or jigs. The park has restrooms, picnic pavilions and free parking for cars. Keep clear of boats using the ramp and watch for summer lightning.
