North Shore Park is a free Lee County riverfront park on the north bank of the Caloosahatchee River in North Fort Myers, with a fishing pier looking across the wide tidal river to downtown Fort Myers. This is estuary fishing, not surf: snook are the main target, especially in the cooler months when they push up the river, with crevalle jacks, ladyfish and summer tarpon rolling in the channel, and sheepshead, black drum, redfish and mangrove snapper when the water is salty enough. Fish the moving tide with live shrimp, pinfish or jigs around the pier and the shoreline. The park is open dawn to dusk with free parking, restrooms and a pavilion. Watch for summer lightning, slippery banks and boat wakes, and expect the bite to slow when heavy rain or freshwater releases turn the river dark.
