Tarpon Street Pier Fishing

Tarpon Street Pier is a City of Fort Myers fishing pier that runs well out over the Caloosahatchee River from the end of Tarpon Street, east of downtown. Hurricane Ian washed the old pier away in 2022; the city rebuilt it a little higher in composite wood and plastic and reopened it in February 2026, and it calls the spot a popular place to fish. The river here is brackish and changes with rain and freshwater releases upstream: snook and tarpon are the fish people hope for, with jacks, ladyfish, catfish, mullet and redfish more common, sheepshead in winter and young bull sharks in the warm months. NOAA's Fort Myers station shows two uneven highs and lows on most days, only about a foot apart, so current and salinity matter more than tide height. Check the posted hours; the parking lot is small and cramped.
