Inglis Lock Recreation Area Fishing

Free: Free entry to this Greenway site (checked Sep 27, 2026)

The Inglis Lock Recreation Area is a free Cross Florida Greenway site at the old Inglis Lock, near the western end of the greenway outside Inglis. The lock has not operated since 1999. Above it lies freshwater Lake Rousseau; below it, the state lists saltwater fishing along the barge canal shoreline west of the lock, where the tidal canal runs out toward the Gulf. The canal below the lock holds sheepshead, black drum, redfish and spotted seatrout, with snook using the deeper water in winter and mangrove snapper, jacks and catfish in summer. Shrimp on a jighead or cut bait on the bottom covers most of it. Fish a moving tide. The site is open from 8 a.m. to sunset with no fee, and the Greenway's west zone field office is based here. Watch for summer lightning, steep and slippery banks and manatees in the canal.
