Crystal River Archaeological State Park Fishing
5.8· Backwater· Crystal River, FL
Crystal River Archaeological State Park is a Florida state park on Museum Point, where the tidal Crystal River meets a broad coastal marsh a few miles from the Gulf. The park, best known for its Native American mounds and museum, allows fishing from the shore, which makes it a quiet bank spot away from the busier piers. The water is brackish and shifts with tide and rain: seatrout, redfish and sheepshead are the usual targets, with mangrove snapper and jacks in the warm months and snook around the mangroves. Fish the moving tide with live shrimp or cut bait on light tackle, and keep clear of the mound area and the signed trails. Parking is in the park lot. Expect biting insects at dusk and sun with little shade on the water's edge.
