Crystal River Preserve State Park Fishing

Crystal River Preserve State Park protects a broad sweep of salt marsh, islands and tidal creeks along the lower Crystal River, and its headquarters on Sailboat Avenue in Crystal River has two free places to fish from the shore. The Mullet Hole fishing area, reached by the first driveway on the left inside the main gate, runs along a canal that opens into the Crystal River, and there is more fishing at the inlet across from the park office, where the restrooms are. Redfish, spotted seatrout and sheepshead are the staples, with snook, mangrove snapper and jacks in the warm months and black drum in winter. Live shrimp under a cork or on a light jighead covers most of it. Fish a moving tide. The park is open 8 a.m. to sunset with no fee. Watch for manatees, paddlers, boats in the basin and summer lightning.
