The Long Key Viaduct is the old Flagler railroad bridge between Long Key and Conch Key, a car-free span of more than two miles that is now part of the Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail and one of the best-known fishing bridges in the Middle Keys, with fishing platforms along its length. A huge volume of water pours between Florida Bay and the Atlantic under it, bringing mangrove, mutton and yellowtail snapper, barracuda, jacks, permit and goliath grouper, with tarpon passing in spring. Heavy bottom rigs with live pinfish work on a strong tide, and a chum bag raises yellowtail at slack. The state's angling survey lists paved parking at both ends, around mile markers 63 and 65.5, and Florida State Parks lists the trail as open 8 a.m. to sunset. There are no restrooms, and the long walk, heat, lightning and fast water are the hazards.
