Channel Two Bridge Fishing

7.4· Bridge · Layton, FL

Free: Free parking; no fee to fish this bridge (checked Sep 27, 2026)

At mile marker 73, at the southern end of Islamorada between Lower Matecumbe Key and Craig Key, Channel Two Bridge is a stretch of the old Flagler railroad beside US-1 that the Overseas Heritage Trail keeps as a free fishing bridge. Platforms jut out from its deck, you can park on either side, and the state's angling survey rates the level deck wheelchair accessible. Tide water pours between Florida Bay and the Atlantic below, carrying mangrove, mutton and yellowtail snapper, barracuda, jacks and ladyfish past the platforms, along with spring tarpon and the occasional snook in the shade. Florida State Parks gives the trail's hours as 8 a.m. to sunset, so this is daylight fishing: work a moving tide with live shrimp or pinfish on the bottom. The bridge has no restrooms, and the risks are heat, lightning, bikes on the deck and fast water.
