Mattie Kelly Park and Nature Walk Fishing

6.5· Pier · Destin, FL

Free: Free entry; open dawn to dusk (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Mattie Kelly Park and Nature Walk is a quiet City of Destin park on Beach Drive, a 10-acre stretch of protected bayou wetland with a long fishing pier that ends in a T, reaching out over Joe's Bayou, a sheltered arm of Choctawhatchee Bay. It is a peaceful place to fish for speckled trout, redfish and flounder over the grass and sand, with sheepshead on the pilings in late winter and spring and white trout in the cooler months. Fish live shrimp under a cork, soft plastics or cut bait on a moving tide, early in the morning or into the evening, when the sunsets over the bay are the draw. The park is open daily from dawn to dusk. There is no restroom listed at the park itself; the city's Joe's Bayou Boat Launch next door has public restrooms. Watch for lightning and boat traffic near the ramps.
