Henderson Beach State Park Fishing

Fee to fish: State park vehicle entrance fee plus required reservation (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Henderson Beach State Park keeps more than a mile of undeveloped Gulf beach and 30-foot dunes in the middle of Destin, and its quiet surf is a good place to learn surf fishing. Pompano and Gulf whiting work the first trough in spring and fall, redfish and bluefish the bars, and Spanish mackerel and ladyfish show up in summer when bait is close; the park also lists flounder and the odd cobia. Fish sand fleas or shrimp on a double-drop rig on a moving tide, with clean green water and a light onshore breeze. The park opens at 8 a.m. and closes at sundown and charges a per-vehicle entrance fee; since May 15, 2026 every visit needs a day-use reservation made online in advance. Watch for rip currents, stingrays in the troughs, and lightning on summer afternoons.
