Silver Palm Park, Boca Raton Fishing

Silver Palm Park is a compact city park on the water at Lake Boca Raton, tucked against the Palmetto Park Road bridge. Fishing is officially permitted, and the amenities (a fish cleaning station among them) show the city expects anglers.

The park sits at 600 East Palmetto Park Road in Boca Raton, on the lake side of the bridge. The City of Boca Raton manages it.

Lake Boca Raton is brackish and tied to the Intracoastal, so both inshore and passing fish show up.

• Spring (Mar-May): snook on the bridge edges, jacks and ladyfish chasing bait
• Summer (Jun-Aug): mangrove snapper around the structure, snook after dark where lights allow
• Fall (Sep-Nov): mullet runs bring snook and jacks; tarpon are possible near the bridge
• Winter (Dec-Feb): sheepshead on pilings and rock, with a few black drum and seatrout

Light to medium spinning tackle is plenty for this sheltered water.

• Snook and snapper: live shrimp or pilchards on a 20 lb leader near the shadow line
• Sheepshead: fiddler crabs or small shrimp on a jig head dropped beside the structure
• Jacks and ladyfish: small spoons or white jigs worked fast
• Catfish and pinfish will find any bottom bait, so fish a float for the better species
• Use the cleaning station before you head home with a legal keeper

Lake Boca Raton rises and falls twice a day with the Atlantic, though the swing is softer than at the inlet.

• Moving water, in or out, gets bait and gamefish going under the bridge
• Early morning and the hour after dusk fish best in summer
• Wind against the tide can dirty the lake edge
• Clear, cool winter days favor sheepshead

The walk is easy, but this is a boating park, so stay aware.

• Look behind you before casting; boats and trailers use the launch lane
• Road and bridge noise can hide approaching boat traffic
• Summer lightning arrives quickly in the afternoon
• Sun and heat are real, so bring water
• The surface is level and paved, which suits children and anglers with limited mobility
