Bird Key Park is a small City of Sarasota park on the John Ringling Causeway, at the traffic light at the base of the causeway, and the city calls it a popular place to fish. The shoreline faces open Sarasota Bay with the Ringling Bridge to the east, so you can cast for spotted seatrout, redfish and snook along the edges, soak shrimp for sheepshead, black drum and mangrove snapper, and throw spoons at Spanish mackerel, ladyfish and jacks when bait moves through. Fish a moving tide early or late in the day. The park has parking, two pavilions and a kayak launch, allows leashed pets and is open 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.; no restrooms are listed. Hurricane repairs are due to start in early 2027, so expect some fencing then.
