Whitaker Gateway Park is a waterfront park just off US 41 at 14th Street in Sarasota, with a 70-foot by 8-foot fishing pier on Sarasota Bay beside restored tidal marsh and mangrove boardwalks. The county lists fishing among its uses, and the park is also described as a good place for sunrise and sunset. The pier, rebuilt after Hurricane Irma with composite decking, reaches mangrove-fringed water holding snook, redfish, seatrout, sheepshead and mangrove snapper. Fish live shrimp on light tackle at a moving tide, and keep to the pier's short deck so everyone has room. The park has a restroom, a playground and trails, and a boat ramp. Summer storms and bugs are the main nuisances.
