North Jetty, Nokomis Fishing

7.5· Jetty · Venice, FL

The North Jetty guards the north side of Venice Inlet at North Jetty Park in Nokomis, and with the South Jetty across the inlet closed since the 2024 hurricanes it is the only walkable jetty on the pass. The rocks and the moving water hold snook through the warm months, mangrove snapper and sheepshead in the rocks, redfish and black drum in fall and winter, and Spanish mackerel and pompano on their spring runs; tarpon roll at the mouth at first light in early summer. Fish the last of the incoming tide into the first of the outgoing. The county park is open 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. with restrooms, a concession and lifeguards, though part of the parking lot is closed for storm repairs until about 2027. The rocks are slick at the waterline and boat wakes run up them, so wear shoes with grip.
