Spruce Creek Park is a 23-acre Volusia County nature park on U.S. 1 in Port Orange, on the tidal marshes of Spruce Creek where it runs toward the Halifax River, and the county lists fishing among its activities. It is a small-water spot for light tackle: spotted seatrout, redfish and snook along the creek edges, black drum and sheepshead in the cooler months, and juvenile tarpon, jacks and mangrove snapper in summer. Fish live shrimp under a cork or on a light bottom rig, or a small soft plastic along the grass edges and creek bends, on a moving tide. The Atlantic's twice-daily tides reach the creek, so current matters here. The park is free and open sunrise to sunset, with restrooms, a pavilion, a playground, a canoe launch, a 536-foot boardwalk and trails to an observation tower. Insects and summer storms are the hazards.
