Turtle Mound Lagoon Shore, Canaveral National Seashore Fishing
6.0· Backwater· Oak Hill, FL
Turtle Mound is a towering prehistoric shell midden on A1A south of New Smyrna Beach, inside Canaveral National Seashore, and a short path from its parking area leads to the shore of Mosquito Lagoon. The National Park Service's page for the site says visitors can enjoy salt water fishing along the shore of the lagoon. This is bank fishing on one of the country's best-known redfish and seatrout fisheries: shallow grass and oyster flats, usually clear water, and tailing fish for anglers willing to wade the shoreline carefully or cast from the bank. Expect redfish, seatrout and black drum, with sheepshead and snapper near any structure. The area is remote and buggy, and park rules apply.
