Mashes Sands Park Fishing

6.7· Beach · Wakulla County, FL

Free: No fee for the beach; separate fee to launch a boat (checked Sep 27, 2026)

Mashes Sands Park is a secluded Wakulla County beach on the point where Ochlockonee Bay opens into the Gulf south of Panacea, backed by salt marsh and oyster bars. The fishing pier, wrecked by Hurricane Michael in 2018, is closed while a replacement is built (the county estimates completion by March 31, 2027), so for now you fish from the sand. Wade or cast along the bay mouth for spotted seatrout, redfish and flounder, work the Gulf side for pompano, whiting and Spanish mackerel in spring and fall, and find sheepshead on the oyster bars in winter. Fish the moving tide; the bay mouth drains to wide, shallow flats at low water. Facilities are basic, with a mobile restroom and a boat ramp nearby. Watch for strong current at the point, stingrays, no-see-ums and lightning.
