Chaires Creek Bridge, Bald Point State Park Fishing

6.2· Bridge· Franklin County, FL

The Range Road bridge over Chaires Creek is a short steel truss span inside Bald Point State Park, near Alligator Point, where a tidal creek drains the marsh toward Apalachee Bay. The park's own visitor information says anglers fish from this bridge, and seatrout, redfish, flounder and sheepshead are the usual catches. It is a quiet, light-tackle spot: drop live shrimp or a soft plastic into the creek channel on a moving tide, or work the shaded edges for sheepshead in the cooler months. The water is brackish, so the catch shifts with rain and the season. The park is open from 8 a.m. until sunset and charges a per-vehicle entry fee. Watch for the occasional car on the road deck and for summer lightning.
