Shell Point Beach Fishing

5.8· Beach · Wakulla County, FL

Shell Point Beach is Wakulla County's small public beach on Apalachee Bay, a sandy strip facing wide, shallow grass flats south of Crawfordville. It is a gentle, family-friendly place to fish: wade out from the beach or cast from the shoreline toward the grass for speckled trout, redfish and flounder, with Spanish mackerel, ladyfish and bluefish chasing bait in summer. Whiting and pompano show on the sandier patches in spring and fall. The water is shallow a long way out, so a rising tide and moving water matter more than time of day. Parking and restrooms are on site. Watch for stingrays in the shallows, summer lightning, and strong southwest winds that make the bay choppy.
