The Washington Street Pier stands at the foot of Washington Street on South Beach Boulevard in Bay St. Louis, beside a public two-lane boat launch with trailer parking and restrooms. Also known as the American Legion Post 139 Clement R. Bontemps Fishing Pier, it is a short, plain pier over the shallow Mississippi Sound, and Hancock County contracted to rebuild it with new rails and flow-through decking after Hurricane Zeta. Expect speckled trout, white trout, croaker and redfish from spring through fall, flounder in the fall and sheepshead and black drum in winter. Dawn on a moving tide is the time to be there, with shrimp under a cork or on the bottom. Boats launch right beside the pier, so cast with care, and leave when summer storms roll in.
