Dunbar Street Pier is a public city pier on North Beach Boulevard in Bay St. Louis, reaching out into the brackish upper Bay of St. Louis where Dunbar Avenue meets the water, with covered pavilions on the deck. The City of Bay St. Louis promotes it for fishing and crabbing, and locals simply call it the Dunbar pier. Speckled trout and white trout feed along this shore in spring and fall, redfish and flounder turn up from late summer into the cold months, and sheepshead and black drum hold on the pilings in winter, while blue crabs keep the crab nets busy through the warm season. Live shrimp under a popping cork is the standard approach, with a crab net or a chicken-neck line on the side. The bay is shallow and wind-driven, so fish moving water. Watch the boulevard traffic and leave at the first thunder.
