The Jim Simpson Sr. Memorial Pier, usually just called the Jim Simpson Pier, runs out into the Mississippi Sound from the west side of Long Beach Harbor. Hurricane Zeta wrecked it in 2020, and Harrison County rebuilt it with flow-through decking that lets storm waves wash over the deck; it reopened at the end of September 2026, with a few finishing touches still to come. Croaker, white trout and hardhead catfish bite through the warm months, speckled trout pass on moving water, and redfish, sheepshead and black drum feed around the pilings, with flounder on the fall run. Bottom rigs with shrimp catch the most fish, and live shrimp under a cork is the way to target trout. The city posts fishing pier rules: no alcohol, no glass and no fires. Watch for boats using the harbor and leave ahead of summer storms.
