The Libby Milner Roland Municipal Pier, Gulfport's Westside Pier until the city renamed it in 2014 for a former councilwoman, runs out from the sand beach on the city's west side into the shallow Mississippi Sound. Hurricane Zeta damaged it in 2020, and it reopened in March 2026 rebuilt with concrete pile caps, flow-through decking and stainless steel hardware. Expect croaker, white trout and catfish in the warm months, speckled trout and redfish on moving water, sheepshead and black drum around the pilings in the cooler months, and flounder in fall. Shrimp on a bottom rig and live shrimp under a cork are the baits to bring. There is no bait shop or marina beside it, so bring everything you need. The tide moves only a foot or two once a day, so wind matters more, and summer storms build fast.
