The Ken Combs Pier runs about 850 feet into the Mississippi Sound from the foot of Courthouse Road in Gulfport, with a 290-foot jetty beside it for protection. The City of Gulfport rebuilt it with concrete pile caps, stainless hardware and flow-through decking and reopened it in February 2026, after storm damage from Tropical Storm Cristobal and Hurricane Zeta had kept it shut since 2020. Its length puts anglers over deeper water than the beach can reach: speckled trout, redfish and white trout on the moving tide, sheepshead and black drum along the pilings and the jetty, flounder in fall and Spanish mackerel when summer bait arrives. Live shrimp under a cork, bottom rigs with shrimp or cut bait, and small spoons for mackerel cover it. The tide changes little, so wind and water movement set the bite. Watch the jetty rocks, boats at the launch beside it and summer lightning.
