Oak Street North Pier Fishing

5.8· Pier· St. Martin, MS

The Oak Street North Pier is a City of Biloxi public pier at Oak Street and Bayview Avenue on the eastern Back Bay, on the site that was once home to the Bureau of Marine Resources. It sits near where the Back Bay narrows into Biloxi Bay, so salt water from the bay reaches it more readily than the piers farther west. The city repaired and reopened it after Hurricane Zeta. Speckled trout, redfish, black drum and sheepshead are the main targets, with croaker, white trout and flounder in their seasons. Fish shrimp under a cork for trout, crab or shrimp on the bottom for drum, and fiddler crabs on the pilings for sheepshead. The tide is small and wind does much of the work, so fish when the water is moving. Boat traffic, summer lightning and heat are the hazards.
