Canal Park, Gulf Shores Fishing
5.5· Backwater· Gulf Shores, AL
Canal Park is a small City of Gulf Shores park tucked under the Highway 59 bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway in Waterway Village, with a lighted single-lane boat launch, a courtesy dock, restrooms and a paved lot. The city does not list fishing here, but locals do fish from the dock and the bank when boats are clear, for sheepshead and black drum around the bridge pilings, redfish, speckled trout and flounder along the edges, and croakers and white trout on the bottom. The brackish catch shifts with rain and wind, and the current along this stretch is strong, with barges and boat traffic passing close. Fish the slack and early moving tide with heavy enough weight to hold. The park is open dawn to dusk; in August 2026 the city debated closing the launch, then renewed its agreement with the state to keep using the site.
