West 6th Street Beach Access, Gulf Shores Fishing
5.8· Beach· Gulf Shores, AL
Free: Free to fish; small metered lot, free for residents with the city decal (checked Oct 17, 2026)
The West 6th Street Beach Access is a City of Gulf Shores public access on West Beach Boulevard, the closest legal surf fishing to the main public beach at Gulf Place, where the city bans fishing. A small paved pay lot, an accessible restroom, an outdoor shower and a boardwalk to the sand make it an easy stop with a family. The surf here gives up Gulf kingfish and pompano on shrimp in spring and fall, redfish when the water cools, and Spanish mackerel and bluefish passing in summer. Lifeguards work this stretch in season, so fish early or late in the day and set up well away from the swimmers. Rip currents, stingrays and afternoon lightning are the main hazards, and parking is metered for everyone but Gulf Shores residents with the city decal.
