Branyon Beach is a small Gulf State Park beach access where Highway 182 meets Campground Road in Gulf Shores, between the Gulf State Park Pier and the Beach Pavilion. A boardwalk crosses the dunes to an open stretch of Gulf surf, and the lot is small, so it rarely feels busy. Surf anglers come for pompano and Gulf kingfish on shrimp and sand fleas in spring and fall, redfish in the deeper trough through the cooler months, and Spanish mackerel and bluefish chasing bait in summer. Fish the moving water early in the day, when the sea is calm and green. There are no confirmed restrooms here; the Beach Pavilion a short drive east has them. Rip currents, stingrays and summer storms are the hazards, and spaces are few.
