Fort Steinhatchee Pier Fishing

5.1· Pier· Taylor County, FL

Fort Steinhatchee Pier sits in the riverside park next to the Steinhatchee Community Center on Riverside Drive, on the Steinhatchee River a short way above the Gulf. Taylor County lists the community center and pier among its public facilities, and the park was upgraded with a pier-to-dock gangway, security lights and renovated restrooms. This is a modest, family-sized bank spot rather than a famous fishing pier, and one local guide calls the platform more a scenic overlook than a productive perch. Small seatrout, redfish, sheepshead, mullet and bait-stealers are the realistic catches, with the best seatrout fishing in fall when the river fills with them. Fish the moving tide with live shrimp on light tackle. Watch for boat wakes and summer lightning, and check that the structure is open before you drive out.
