10th Street West Beach Access, St. George Island Fishing

5.6· Beach· Franklin County, FL

This is a quiet street-end Franklin County beach access on the west side of St. George Island, at 10th Street West and West Gorrie Drive. A walkover crosses the dunes to the Gulf, and there is a small lot of about five spaces and a trash can, with no restrooms. Few visitors come this far from the lighthouse beach, so the sand is often empty and a surf angler has room to work the bars and troughs. Whiting, redfish, pompano, trout and Spanish mackerel are the usual Gulf-beach catches on this coast, and sharks cruise the cuts in warm water. Fish the rising and falling tide with sand fleas or shrimp on a simple bottom rig. Bring water, bait and a cooler, since nothing is sold nearby. The main hazard is summer lightning, plus rip currents and sharks near the sandbars.
