Unit Four Beach, St. George Island Fishing

Unit Four Beach is a small, quiet bay beach on the Apalachicola Bay side of St. George Island at the end of East 6th Street, with a picnic table and room for only a few cars. Franklin County's tourism office calls it a hidden gem: the beach runs along some of the most productive shallow oyster bars in a bay famous for them, so the fishing is close in. Wade the bars on a moving tide for redfish, speckled trout, flounder, sheepshead and black drum, with Spanish mackerel and ladyfish in summer. Live shrimp under a cork, soft plastics and gold spoons all work. There are no other facilities. Wear sturdy shoes against the oyster shell, bring insect repellent in the warm months, and shuffle your feet for stingrays.
