St. George Island Public Beach Fishing

6.7· Beach · Franklin County, FL

Free: No fee for this beach park (checked Sep 27, 2026)

St. George Island's public beach is the island's main Gulf beach access, just off the end of the bridge road beside Lighthouse Park and the rebuilt Cape St. George Light. The beach park has a bathhouse, covered picnic pavilions, a playground and a ball court, with parking lots on either side of Lighthouse Park. Surf anglers catch whiting, flounder and redfish year-round, and pompano, speckled trout, bluefish, Spanish mackerel and sharks once the water warms past about 70°F. Work the troughs and sandbars at either end of the day, while the beach is quiet, using shrimp, sand fleas or a pompano jig. In summer the beach is busy with swimmers, so cast well away from them. Watch for rip currents, stingrays and lightning.
