10th Street East Beach Access, St. George Island Fishing

5.6· Beach· Franklin County, FL

On the eastern half of St. George Island, the 10th Street East access is a county walkover at the end of East Gorrie Drive's cross street, midway between the residential blocks and the state park. It has about five parking spaces and a trash can but no restrooms, and the beach in front of it is wide, plain Gulf sand. Anglers use it for surf fishing for whiting, redfish and pompano, with trout, mackerel and sharks when the water warms, and the long island beach means you can walk to a trough that looks promising. Unit Four beach, a more developed spot with an angler following, is farther west, while the park's famous East End lies several miles beyond. Bring bait and water, and expect afternoon lightning in summer and strong rips after storms.
