6th Street West Beach Access, St. George Island Fishing
5.6· Beach· Franklin County, FL
Sixth Street West is another of Franklin County's street-end beach accesses on St. George Island, about a mile and a quarter west of the busy public beach beside the lighthouse. A dune walkover and a trash can serve a five-space lot, with no restrooms on site. That short distance from the crowds means a calmer stretch of Gulf sand, though you should still scan for swimmers and fish well clear of anyone in the water. The beach produces the standard Panhandle surf mix: whiting and redfish through much of the year, then pompano, trout, Spanish mackerel and bluefish once the water passes about 70 degrees. A bottom rig with sand fleas or shrimp is the simplest approach. Expect thin parking in summer, strong sun and fast afternoon thunderstorms.
